So I need to connect to the internet in my new appartment and they gave me this piece of paper that says %26quot;Please put the following IP addresses into your network configuration%26quot; Then it gives me things like

Net mask: 255.255.254.0

Box number: 30

You should have not inserted your IP on here, but what you have here is a static ip, you will have to go into network connections and insert this into your Network card.

I think prophet got it there, you are getting the MAC and IP mixed up. A MAC address is like a serial number or a car's VIN number, it does not change. But the IP address will probably change, it is not 'rubber stamped' on anything, it is given to you by either your router or your ISP. One computer won't connect to the internet.?
We have four here and only one isn't working. When I try to connect it says that the server is not connected. Everything looks connect to us (we're at work). We pulled up an Advanced System Information Error Log and it says the following: The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NwInkIpx because another computer on the network has the same name. I just purchased a new computer running Windows XP Professional and I wanted to hook it up to my old computer (running XP Home) to transfer my files. We already had a (non-wireless) router set up in the house, so I hooked both computers to it and ran the Windows 'home network setup' wizard. When it finished, the new computer could see the old one, but didn't have permission to access it. The old one couldn't see the new one at all. How do I remove a wireless network from my Netgear router?
What I've done is apparently set up a new network. In reconnecting my router (gone for the summer), I went to the http://192.168.1.1 website and was working with the settings to configure the router and to try to get the blasted thing to work (turns out I needed to restart the modem). Well, I changed the name from %26quot;Netgear%26quot; to %26quot;Ed%26quot; as the help box recommends, verified it was secure, and got on the network. But now when I open my wireless network connection utility thing, both %26quot;Ed%26quot; and %26quot;Netgear%26quot; show up as an available network. Although I automatically connect to %26quot;Ed%26quot; and it is secured, the %26quot;Netgear%26quot; option shows no security. I'd like to delete this so my system is more secure, but I'd also take suggestions on how to enable security. I just don't want to have to do a router reset and start all over. How do i change my router from secure to open?
my comp said it was having a problem with the profile and suggested deleting that one and creating a new one. so i deleted and tried to create a new profile and got to the first password, a device ownership password. i don't remember putting one in in the first place but where it says to look on the router to find it i couldn't find one. i tried like 7 or 8 0's and that got me through. it then asked for network name and security type which both were set. it also asked for the password (key) which i tried putting in and it wouldn't accept. i've gotten fed up and decided to try changing the security type on my router to open. how do i go about doing this on a d-link router ???How do i change my router from secure to open?
The easiest way to fix this problem is by just resetting the router and recreating your network. Push in the reset button on the router and hold it. This will erase all settings and it will be as it was when it came out of the box. Set up new network without encryption and you are ready to go. Good luck!!!

Locked out of my computer....please help?
We were given a computer. It had a password. My son went in and change the user name from administrator to something with spaces and an %26amp;, a total of 17 characters. He said he didn't change the password. He said he changed the domain, network, and computer name also, for that user name (which used to be administrator). How can I fix this? We are locked out of the computer.
Also, when we press F8 when booting up the computer, safe mode is NOT an option.

My mom got Comcast internet without me knowing which is fine but they gave us an Arris router/modem (an all in one sort of thing) and made the password the same exact thing as the network name. I have tried going to 192.168.1.1 and no options were there for me.How do I change my router%26039;s password?

DRM file messed up after a hardware upgrade replaced my cpu and now I cant share media in my network?
I changed my processor on one of my PCs and it messed up my media sharing files is their a way to fix this on vista, all the tech support seems to be for xp . I changed the name of my DRM to DRMbackup this kinda works but it seems to be a hack not a fix , i'm still getting error messages on rhapsody. Wireless Router passcode? How do I add one?
I have a Motorola sbg900 and im really not sure how to add a passscode so not just anyone can use my internet....
this is the installation guide I found on the net and im still not sure how to do it????
I was able to change the name of the network from motorola, just not sure about the pass code...
this is what i did so far...
192.168.0.1 this takes me to the Motorola page thats I guess in my router then I put in a user name and pass code its admin and motorola by default...
then I hit the wireless tab then i go to Security...
And I have pressed every button in there and i still dont no what im doing wrong..

Laptop won't connect to wireless?
I have a Sony Vaio laptop and a Belkin wireless, I also have Windows 7. It used to connect fine and I could use wireless all around my house. Then I tried to change the name of my network and it stopped working, so then I immediately changed it back to it's exact original name but it still will not connect. I KNOW that it has nothing to do with my actual internet, if I plug in the cable into the back of my laptop it connects fine but I don't want to have to sit on my kitchen floor to use my own internet lol

if you are using windows 7 ,the network is visible if it is available.(task bar) if not go to control Panel network and sharing center and connect to a network.
From there you can view all the wireless networks.
If it is not there follow these steps.
connect the cable (rj45) to the laptop and in the address bar of the browser type 192.168.1.1
for the user name and the password type %26quot;admin%26quot; and %26quot;admin%26quot; (check the handbook if it is not working ,or use your own pw if u have changed it)
click on wireless settings and check the status, range so on. (do not change other settings, only wireless)
save the settings and re strat the router.. if the problem exists get help form a techLaptop won%26039;t connect to wireless?
The quickest solution would probably be to reset the wireless router, and run though the setup process again from scratch. This way you can give it the new name that you want.

Set up wifi router on school network?
I am trying to setup a wireless router Linksys wifi N series in my apartment but iim having some problems. I know you can do it because alot of people have them set up, being that they wont tell me how to do it i need to look else where, im fairly good with networking but still haveing problems, it gives me a limited or no connectivity error hardwired through the router. It wont allow me to change router settings once i connect the router through the school network. If it gets by the limited no connectivity problem, the bet it gives me is a local connection only, still shows the school network name but wont allow the internet access. well since you are trying to connect it in a school network you wont have any luck since changing almost anything in a network requires the school administrators password
