How do i change my wireless network from "netgear" to "brian's wireless" or something like that?

i own a mac laptop, and i use a netgear wireless router...i have never changed the default name of the router, so it always comes up as %26quot;netgear%26quot; but that means it's more vulnerable to hackers...i know that i should change it, but even on the netgear website, they don't give you any specific instructions beyond pushing the reset button on the back of the router itself...i can do that, but then where do i go to put a name on the network? is there a website, how do i get the ip address...the whole thing is such a mystery...it shouldn't be this hard...How do i change my wireless network from %26quot;netgear%26quot; to %26quot;brian%26039;s wireless%26quot; or something like that?

Once you have got to the configuration page of your router, you should be able to change the SSID field, which will be in the general settings. This may be different on your router, I looked at a belkin. Anyways, you will be able to change the display name of the router to what you want. I.E. Belkin5g4f to FREE TROJANS HERE or what not.
