You don't say what OS you are using.

The simplest thing to do is change your PC's name.

VISTA - Open Control Panel and select %26quot;See the name of this computer%26quot; (bottom left of the window). Select Change Settings and then click on the button CHANGE. Type in whatever name you want, and select APPLY. you will then need to reboot your PC.

XP - Open Control Panel and got to SYSTEM, select the Computer name tab and select CHANGE etc

(xp instructions from memory)

If your computer is freezing on trying to connect to the network - try using safe mode to change the name (press F8 as the PC boots up and select safe mode from the menu)

Well from the sound of it it may be the case that they both have the same IP address on your local network.

If your computers have static ips change the last digit to something else.

To find this out go to settings/network connections/properties on your network connection.

Then go into the tcp/ip settings. If %26quot;use the following IP address%26quot; is ticked just change the last digit.Freezing computer..network issue!?
