Anyway.
Connect via RJ45 (ethernet). Either on the laptop or the desktop, whichever is more convenient. If you know the router's IP, then open the settings page in a browser and navigate to the wireless page. Turn the wireless security off temporarily. Make sure no MAC address filtering is switched on. Set the wireless channel to one about midrange (6 is best usually). Then connect both laptop and desktop wirelessly (still with the ethernet connection). Both should connect without issues. OK? Look at the DHCP table and see that you have 3 connections: 1 desktop wireless card, 1 laptop wireless card and the LAN connection from one of the two.
This proves that you can connect with the hardware and that all devices are functional. If you cannot connect in this way, then you have issues with yr hardware and will have to seek help from VM.
So, using the LAN connection, change the SSID to yr preferred identifier and change the security level to WPA if possible and enter a suitable key (WEP is weak, WPA2 is best but not always supported by hardware). Save the settings and reboot the router.
The router will now assign LAN IP addresses to the 3 devices and you will see the 'acquiring' icon in the system tray of the computers with wireless connections. Open Start/run cmd and type ipconfig /all in both machines. You will see the internal LAN IPs and the router (default gateway) detailed for each.
If any of the wireless connections has an IP starting with 169, then you have a problem with one of the wireless interfaces. Try changing channel on the router and avoiding interference objects like mirrors/water/mobile phones in the vicinity...
If both connect, reboot to make sure. Then you can add security like hiding SSID and MAC address filtering...

Basic Connectivity. NO Security.
Connect (wired) Modem to Router (wireless) to PCs.
Set router OFF.
Reset modem: Press RESET button.
Wait 60 secs.
Set router ON.
Reset router: Press %26amp; hold RESET button 10-20 secs.
Wait 60 sec.
PC Command Line:
Click [Start] - [Run...] - type: cmd, press [ENTER]
At the prompt (c:\.....%26gt;) type: ipconfig /release, press [ENTER]
At the prompt (c:\.....%26gt;) type: ipconfig /renew, press [ENTER]
TEST: Connect to Internet.
If SUCCESS: Repeat Steps after PC Command Line on your other PCs.
If NO SUCCESS:
At the prompt (c:\.....%26gt;) type: ipconfig /all, press [ENTER]
If IP Address == 0.0.0.0 connect PC (wired) to router (if possible) or modem and perform ALL steps again.
