Using WindowsXP/MS Outlook on network, how difficult is it to change a user name & domain for email address?

I need to create an email address that has a different format and domain than what our office would normally use. Here is the current format %26quot;first.last@blah.com%26quot; ... but here is what I want to change this to %26quot;firstlast@blahblah.com%26quot; for a single user. One of the IT people is telling me this is impossible. I really think that changing a single user's username and domain is not impossible? Please help as I am trying to respect the IT dept and my bosses odd request. HELP!Using WindowsXP/MS Outlook on network, how difficult is it to change a user name %26amp; domain for email address?
Your company owns the domain name blah.com. In order to receive e-mail under blahblah.com, your company would need to purchase the domain blahblah.com and set up its server to host that domain. It's not impossible, but it's a lot of work, and it costs money for a company to do. You shouldn't expect your company to do this unless there is a definite business benefit for the company. Changing the stuff to the right of the @ is a big deal.

As an alternative, you could sign up for your own mail hosting account with a company like www.smileglobal.com, www.fastmail.fm, or www.everyone.net. You can pick your own domain and pay to have an e-mail account under it.Using WindowsXP/MS Outlook on network, how difficult is it to change a user name %26amp; domain for email address?
I do not know how your system is setup, but the blah.blah@bla.com could normally be changed to blahblah@blah.com

first.last@blah.com

firstlast@blah.com %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;that is a simple one

But the firstlast@blahblah.com,,where blahblah is the DNS, that is static.

JimJones@guyana.com is easy

jimjones@guyana.mookiwindow.com is not

jim.jones@tool.com %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;old

jimjones@tool.com %26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;new

But still, if you have an IT staff, they are like the your first line of defense against unwanted garbage, so is advised to work with them. Through a working partnership and agreements that all can understand, is smooth operations for all concerned. This is done with dialogue and respect for one another.
